DAS.GOLDBERG – The only Ski-In/Ski-Out Hotel In Bad Hofgastein

In the Gastein Valley, not far from Salzburg, the family-run nature, design, and wellness hotel DAS.GOLDBERG not only impresses with its location right next to the ski slopes, but also with swings in the spa and its own coffee roastery. A five-star establishment in Bad Hofgastein that specializes in unique features.

DAS.GOLDBERG has a lot to offer. Diversity is not only the buzzword of the moment in social circles. Hotels are also focusing on increasingly diverse and unique offerings. The nature, design, and wellness hotel DAS.GOLDBERG in Bad Hofgastein, Austria, is a prime example of “a different kind of vacation.”

It starts right at check-in: a glass of sparkling wine with appetizers is served while you enjoy the fantastic view of the Gastein Valley and the Hohe Tauern National Park from the high plateau location and settle in. A welcome photo is taken with a stylish retro Polaroid camera and presented in a small passe-partout with the inscription “Golden Memories.”

Golden memories

A charming souvenir that guests can take back to their rooms like a little treasure and later take home with them. Incidentally, DAS.GOLDBERG offers studio apartments and suites, all with beautiful views of the valley or mountains. The furnishings are made from natural materials sourced from the region and feature a minimalist, high-quality design. Elements such as rocking chairs, fireplaces, and freestanding bathtubs create a wellness atmosphere even before you enter the hotel’s actual spa.

It is called “Nature’s Nest” and covers 1,500 square meters over two floors. While the relaxation and reclining rooms in muted tones seem to blend in with the surrounding nature thanks to floor-to-ceiling windows, guests can relax in the whirlpool or the 22-meter-long infinity pool. Especially in winter, it is the ideal warm place to watch the snowflakes fall on the white mountain landscape.

DAS.GOLDBERG – Ski-in and ski-out

The highlight of the lower floor of the wellness area is the GOLD.STOLLEN. Inspired by the Gastein Valley’s past as a gold mining region and the still existing, health-promoting Gastein healing tunnel, the large, rock-like tunnel tepidarium offers pleasant temperatures and higher humidity. To create it, 420,000 kilograms of natural stone from the Hohe Tauern mountains were used.

But skiing is sure to warm you up too. The valley run passes right by the hotel – the only place in Bad Hofgastein with ski-in and ski-out access! So in the morning, you can slip into your ski boots, ski a few meters downhill, and you’re ready to enjoy the snow. With 220 kilometers of slopes and altitudes of over 2,600 meters, the area offers varied runs for all skill levels. In the afternoon, you end up back at the hotel entrance – no shuttle, no waiting. You can then relax with après-ski at the FEUER.BAR at DAS.GOLDBERG. Table grills, casual Ibiza decor, and DJ sounds create a cool lounge atmosphere.

Those who prefer a more leisurely pace can explore over 80 kilometers of groomed cross-country trails that wind through the Gastein Valley during the day. Winter hiking trails lead through snow-covered forests, and snowshoe tours take you to untouched slopes. Mountain guide Christian also organizes winter tours on request at the hotel. Whether it’s sunrise at the summit or a panoramic walk with hot drinks in your backpack, the winter mountain world shows itself from its most impressive side.

Bubble bath and signature treatments

In the sauna area at DAS.GOLDBERG, whose doors open onto a covered swing section, it’s time to warm up. Be sure to try the steam bath, where a foam event program is held several times a day, promising not only childlike fun but also soft skin.

The hotel’s diverse and extraordinary spa treatments offer further pampering for the body – from Indian Abhyanga treatments and Lomi Lomi massages to the signature “Waldkraft” treatment, in which the neck and back are rubbed and pampered with fragrant essences of Swiss stone pine, spruce, silver fir, and mountain pine. However, my personal favorite is the hot chocolate massage, which uses liquid, warmed chocolate instead of oil to conjure up soft skin that also smells pleasantly of cocoa.

The motto “Wald.Wiese.Wertvolles”

You can also order hot chocolate for breakfast at the hotel. There’s a bunch of regional specialties from local producers and freshly made egg dishes to choose from, all under the motto Wald.Wiese.Wertvolles (Forest.Meadow.Precious). For example, the honey comes from Toni, a hobby beekeeper and in-house technician, and the trout come from the hotel’s own pond. In addition, jams, herbal salts, syrups, and lemonades are homemade at the hotel and refined with ingredients from the forest and meadow. Another special feature is the DAS.GOLDBERG coffee roastery run by host Georg Seer, which can be found in the hotel lobby. Two blends are prepared from eight types of beans, all of which are fair trade.

Like the rest of the building, the bar next to the coffee roastery impresses with its generous window fronts, inviting guests to linger and enjoy the panoramic views. In addition to around 450 wines, there are around 80 types of gin and 100 types of whiskey to choose from. Regional spirits and liqueurs made from herbs, Swiss stone pine, or fruit round off the range of alcoholic beverages.

Between heaven and valley

DAS.GOLDBERG also focuses on diversity when it comes to activities. In summer, guests can explore the largest nature reserve in the Alps, the Hohe Tauern National Park. It offers 350 kilometers of hiking and cycling trails. In spring and fall, multi-day yoga retreats can also be booked. Switch off, arrive, enjoy a different kind of vacation: the DAS.GOLDBERG hotel excels at this.
