Post Family Resort: A Gourmet Hotel For Generations
Asian flavors, regional ingredients, and culinary events featuring guest chefs from Austria and Germany: The Post Family Resort in the Salzburg region offers fine dining that appeals to both children and adults. Spread across nearly seven hectares, the resort also offers activities for all ages—from archery and horseback riding to tennis and paddle tennis.
The Post Family Resort near Bad Reichenhall is more than just a beautiful hotel…Family vacations, in particular, often involve compromise. The younger ones want action, the older ones want relaxation, and mealtime is when things can get tricky. At the Post Family Resort in Austria, wishes and reality come together perfectly.
This is partly due to the spaciousness of the four-star superior resort. There are about 60 rooms spread across seven hectares. On the other hand, it’s due to the amenities, which cater to the preferences and needs of all age groups. When the weather is warm, the resort’s own natural swimming lake with a water slide provides a refreshing escape, and when the weather is bad, the many indoor play areas are a huge hit with children and teens.
Rounding out the year-round activities for guests of all ages at the Post Family Resort are a supervised Kids Club, a movie theater, mini-golf and bocce courts, beach volleyball and tennis courts, a paddleball court, an archery range, and a trampoline park. Great for animal lovers: the indoor riding arena with an attached petting zoo and the many hotel cats that make themselves comfortable either at the front desk or outside on a park bench.
The Post Family Resort has something for everyone
Just want to relax? The adults-only wellness area on the rooftop terrace of the Post Family Resort is the perfect place for that. The sauna area and onsen pool offer spectacular views of the surrounding mountains, helping to melt away both negative thoughts and physical tension. A few floors below, in the water world area not far from the Kids Club, there are two large pools, a slide paradise, and several splash zones, so families can enjoy their vacation together. And the youngest guests can relax perfectly with Baby Floating, designed by the family-run company Maela and supervised by professional pediatric nurses.
If all that water fun leaves you feeling hungry, you can satisfy your appetite practically around the clock thanks to the Post Family Resort’s full-board plan—and at a gourmet level! Mornings begin with a large breakfast buffet featuring mainly local products from the Salzburg region, such as cheese, herbs, eggs, and organic honey. From noon until late afternoon, the kitchen serves soups, salads, and homemade cakes. A nice touch: a panini station where you can build your own sandwich.
Cuisine: A fusion of Austrian and Asian flavors
A multi-course menu, including a salad and cheese from the buffet, is served every evening in the cozy dining rooms of the hotel restaurant, always with a focus on variety and quality. “Vegetables, fish, game: most of it comes from the local area or from organic farms. I hunt myself, for example, and enjoy cooking fantastic game dishes for our guests. We place great emphasis on flavor and sustainability,” says host and head chef Florian Unseld, who describes his cuisine as a fusion of Austrian and Asian flavors.
The Post Family Resort takes guests’ food intolerances and allergies into account just as much as their dietary preferences—from vegan and vegetarian to gluten-free. Great: Age-appropriate baby food in jars and formula are available all day for babies. Coffee and tea are available at no extra charge from morning through afternoon, and water and soft drinks are even free from 7:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Several times a year: “Culinary Friendships” events
For foodies, the culinary highlights at the Post Family Resort are the “Culinary Friendships” events, which take place several times a year. Junior chef Florian Unseld usually invites top chefs and winemakers from the surrounding area to these events, such as the kitchen team from Gasthof Rahofer and wine merchant Thomas Reither who were guests most recently in the fall of 2025.
Dinner and drinks are served during the “Culinary Friendships” evenings in the cozy beach house, located right next to the main building. The separate building by the hotel’s natural swimming lake not only offers a beautiful panoramic view but also features an outdoor kitchen with a large terrace and a dining room that exudes laid-back Ibiza vibes thanks to hanging wicker lamps and boho-chic decor.
The beach house can accommodate up to 40 guests, so the atmosphere is intimate and relaxed. “In winter, we set up various food stands outside on the terrace where guests can help themselves. Just like at a Christmas market, everything is decorated in a festive atmosphere with string lights and music,” explains Florian Unseld. He is the mastermind behind the “Culinary Friendships” dining concept, which he first launched in 2023.
As a traditional family business founded in 1568 in the tranquil village of Unken near Bad Reichenhall, it’s no wonder that the Family Post Resort boasts a magnificent old wine cellar in the main building where fine wines are stored. Once a week, tastings are held with host Florian Unseld and in-house sommelier Jürgen Hüttenmeyer. “All in all, families can spend an unforgettable vacation with us—one that children can enjoy just as much as their grandparents.”
