Tested for You: Skin Serums by Miamo

Even as an experienced beauty journalist, I’ve rarely seen such a wide selection of skin serums as those offered by the new Miamo skincare line. During the presentation in Munich, they stood lined up like soldiers—dropper bottles in every shade of blue, green, brown, pink, and white, tailored to specific skin needs. For my test, I chose the Multi-Peptide 20% Lifting Serum, the Hyaluronic 14+ Formula, and the Epigenage Shots, which I plan to use for my serum layering routine.

Miamo – “I Love Myself”

The products from the Italian brand Miamo, which are backed by clinical research, have only been available on the German market since April of this year. “Miamo” means “I love myself” in German. This is intended to reflect the brand’s philosophy of self-care and lifelong well-being. The daily skincare routine, personalized through individually tailored regimens, is intended to be transformed into a conscious act of “self-empowerment.”

To this end, the brand offers more than 100 individual skincare regimens designed to address a wide range of skin conditions and needs. Each routine consists of a sequence of up to six steps designed to maintain the skin’s balance and maximize effectiveness: cleansing, exfoliation, stimulation, treatment, hydration, and protection are the categories.

A key feature of this approach is serum layering, for which Miamo has long been known in Italy. Instead of relying on a single product, multiple serums can be applied in a specific order, allowing different skin needs to be addressed simultaneously and synergistically through compatible active ingredients.

I’m starting my layering routine…

In the morning, after cleansing, I first use the „Multi-Peptide 20% Lifting Serum“ (30 ml, 104 euros). I apply three drops of this slightly thick, transparent serum to my face—including the eye area—and neck. Don’t rub it into the skin; instead, gently pat it in (pat it in). Gently pressing the serum into the skin protects the delicate facial skin, prevents redness, and stimulates blood circulation. The light tapping with your fingertips allows the highly concentrated active ingredients to penetrate deeper, whereas rubbing often just spreads the product onto your hands or unnecessarily stresses the skin.

This firming and smoothing anti-aging serum has been developed to reduce expression lines. It contains six specific peptides that act on the mechanism responsible for muscle contraction and stimulate collagen synthesis. This dual action is designed to reduce the depth of expression lines and help improve skin elasticity.

The next step in my morning skincare routine is the Epigenage +20% Shot with the Epigenetica Formula (10 shots, 1 ml each, 83 euros). The whitish, creamy liquid comes in a syringe-like applicator (needle-free, of course); you simply remove the cap and squeeze out the desired amount using the plunger. In the morning, I apply 0.5 ml from the 1-ml syringe and massage the serum into my skin until it’s fully absorbed.

The Epigenetic Booster is designed as a comprehensive anti-aging, regenerating, and firming treatment with niacinamide (vitamin B3) and panthenol (vitamin B5), both of which have moisturizing, protective, and brightening effects. It also contains a combination of peptides to reduce muscle contractions and stimulate collagen production and proteoglycan synthesis. Of course, I finish my daily skincare routine with SPF 50 sun protection.

Moisturizing in the evening

In the evening, I replace the Multi-Peptide Lifting Serum with „Hyaluronic 14+“ (30 ml, 83 euros), because my skin craves plenty of moisture, especially in the summer after a day in the sun. I apply 4 to 6 drops of serum to my face, making sure to include my lips as well. I let the serum absorb thoroughly before applying the remaining 0.5 ml of Epigenage +20% from my morning routine. Why this order? The general rule for serum layering is to apply thinner or moisture-focused hyaluronic acid serums directly to cleansed skin so that the moisture-binding molecules can penetrate deeply. The final step is my usual nighttime skincare routine.

The formula of the “Hyaluronic 14+” serum contains a blend of seven types of hyaluronic acid. With over 14 different molecular weights, it provides a deep, multi-layered plumping and moisturizing effect. Added to this is NAG (acetylglucosamine), which stimulates the body’s own hyaluronic acid synthesis, while glucosyl-naringin helps inhibit the breakdown of hyaluronic acid. This reduces the depth of fine lines and improves firmness, elasticity, and skin density.

Who is behind Miamo?

This Milan-based family business—which remains a family business to this day—was founded in 2012. The co-founders are two pharmacists: Dr. Elena Aceto di Capriglia and her daughter, Dr. Camilla D’Antonio. The overarching strategic direction of the brand’s parent company is guided by their son and brother, Giovanni D’Antonio, Chief Executive Officer.

The brand focuses on functional cosmetics and personalized skincare regimens. Conceptualization and development take place in-house in Italy, led by the scientific team and drawing on pharmaceutical expertise. Depending on the product concept and innovations, production takes place partly in Italy and, for specific textures (e.g., on-the-go formats), in countries such as South Korea. Each formulation undergoes extensive instrumental and dermatological testing to confirm its efficacy.
