Maria Galland Paris- my test… I am an expert in facial treatments. I love having my skin pampered by a professional. Since I was 25, hardly a month has gone by without me having a cosmetic treatment. I have tried a wide variety of methods, both manual and mechanical. Some experiences were good, others less so.
That’s why I was particularly excited about my appointment with Maria Galland. What do they do differently? What is so special about them? After all the brand is known for its effective treatments. The institutes now offer nine different methods for the face and two body treatments. I was lucky enough to get an appointment with Verena Koller, trainer at Maria Galland Paris, at her training center in Munich. This is where Maria Galland beauticians are trained in new treatment methods and massage techniques.
First, the Maria Galland skin analysis
The basis of the “Maria Galland Method” is a precise skin analysis. Verena Koller is very happy with my skin and sees it as a challenge to “make beautiful skin even more beautiful,” as she says. She then puts together my treatment, which is specifically tailored to each area and meets my individual needs. Maria Galland, the founder of the cosmetics brand, called it the “Shaping Mosaic Method,” a customized approach in which creams are applied in response to the different concerns of the facial zones.
A cleansing ritual including exfoliation, which introduces the treatment, goes without saying. This is part of every facial. The subsequent Maria Galland care products are combined with an innovative manual massage. Everything is done 100 percent manually. No devices are used, which I really like. The novel massage is a combination of deep, gliding anti-aging strokes and intensive kneading movements (petrissage), including tapping and rolling movements. All of this is designed to stimulate cell activity, tighten and firm the skin, and immediately visibly plump it up.
A type of cosmetic facelift
Verena Koller’s professional hands work wonders. After the massage and lifting mask, my skin actually looks firmer, my facial contours are better defined, and my wrinkles are less deep. Overall, my face looks sculpted and visibly younger. The volume and firmness are striking, and not just for a few hours afterward. The effect actually lasted for a few days. Since then, I have been using the products for my Maria Galland beauty ritual at home every day.
Incidentally, while the mask was taking effect, I also received a wonderfully relaxing massage on my décolleté and arms to firm up these areas of skin – regions that are often neglected in many facials.… weiterlesen
To travel during my profession as a beauty journalist was never enough for my. Also my six month on a world trip didn’t do it. It always attracts me to other cities, foreign countries, on roadtrips and places I don’t know yet. But I am not only interested in “culture” and “cream”, I am also fascinated by people who have stories to tell . Such unique experiences I want to share with you.
For me, skin care with the right products is essential. It’s part of my daily rituals like brushing my teeth. But as consistently and lovingly as you take care of your skin at home, the beautician can achieve even more. This has just been shown to me again visibly and noticeably with a very special facial.
According to a survey done by Statista only 11 percent of German women see regularly once a month a beautician, 52 percent never. American women are a bit better. 23 percent have a facial on a regular base. The “refusers” do not even know what they are missing. I experience it first hand every month. Although I use the same „Doctor Mi!“ products at home that the beautician uses at Dr. Miriam Rehbein, it makes a hell of a difference.
My skin is even and has the desired glow. Beautician Marietta is also very happy with what she sees. “Your skin is beautiful,” she says. When I asked skeptical whether something could be improved at all, she replied that something could always be achieved. To anticipate the result: Marietta was right. My skin has a very special glow after the 1.5 hour facial, the contours are tighter, even the corners of the mouth are slightly raised. And the positive effect intensifies in the days after. But one after another.
Cherry stone peel and supersonic speed
My facial starts with cleaning. There’s not much to get off because I never wear make-up, then the peeling with the crushed cherry stone peel follows. I do this regularly at home because it gives a lot of glow. After that she eliminates blackheads, but there’s not much to find either. „Tone.S“ is used for disinfection, because the two percent salicylic acid, an oil-soluble beta hydroxy acid, wipes the last of the fat particles from the skin and improves the absorption of active ingredients. This is followed by the Obagi glow peel. Beverly Hills doc Zein Obagi became known for his azure blue peel, which combines three acids. The glow or radiance peel with salicylic acid is visually less spectacular than the blue texture, but it tingles on the skin. It also works in depth, forms new collagen and repairs, minimizes pores.
The JetPeel that comes after that sends a chill down my spine every time. A water-gas mixture hits the skin from small nozzles with supersonic speed and over 700 kilometers per hour.… weiterlesen

In the northwestern part of the island of Cyprus on Chrysochou Bay, there is a fantastic 5-star hotel: Anassa, which belongs to the exclusive Thanos Group. It’s appearance lies somewhere between a grand palace and a relaxed beach resort, perched high above the Mediterranean. And it is home to the award-winning Thalasso Spa. A short walk from Pelagos restaurant, one of the hotel’s four dining venues, where I was served an exuberant variety of mezes at lunch, leads me to the hotel’s beauty temple.
Fuchsia-colored bougainvillea cascades over whitewashed walls. The paved path to the spa meanders past the small Byzantine chapel along snow-white single-storey villas with gardens, it’s 30 degrees Celsius and most of the turquoise shutters are closed. Once and again, I catch a glimpse of the azure Mediterranean between the high pines and olive trees.
Facial: Augustinus Bader’s anti-aging treatment
Normally I avoid treatments in hotel spas, I can book facials in my hometown, where I know the beautician and she is familiar with my skin needs. For the the Anassa Thalasso Spa I make an exception: since June of this year, the hotel has been the first in the world to offer treatments with products from Augustinus Bader.
The German stem cell expert’s power skincare range was launched in 2018 and has since been showered with prestigious beauty awards from VOGUE to Glamour to Tatler. I am convinced. I signed up for the VIP treatment, 90 minutes of regenerative facial, foot and hand massage included. My way to the cabin leads past the indoor pool, which looks like a Roman temple with its tall columns and ornamental tiles. A delicate scent of lavender accompanies me.
How do Augustinus Bader’s products benefit the skin?
Augustinus Bader is one of the world’s leading researchers in the field of stem cell and biomedicine. As head of stem cell research at the University of Leipzig, Augustinus Bader developed a wound gel in 2008 that heals third-degree burns without surgery or skin transplant. The gel works because it sends a series of healing signals to the wound or burned site. This activates the skin cells and enables the healing process. Based on this insight, the stem cell specialist initially developed two facial care products, “The Cream” and “The Rich Cream”, which he launched in 2018. The aim of the duo: vitamins, nutrients and minerals that bring the healing information to the skin’s own stem cells with the help of transport molecules.… weiterlesen
My curriculum vitae is as colorful as the world. I was editor at ELLE, tested cars and participated at off-road tours. I lived on a small island in Florida for twelve years and from there I travelled the Caribbean and almost all states of the USA for various magazines, conducted interviews with interesting people, reported on beautiful homes and exotic travel destinations. After my return to Germany I worked for InStyle magazine for 14 years in various positions. And it was there that I first came into contact with the topic of beauty. To this day I still enjoy immersing myself in the fine cosmos of creams, perfumes and lipsticks. (photo: Thomas Dilge)
