Tested for you: From Instagram: Ultra-slim sonic toothbrush by mate Care & Repair

A sonic toothbrush that lets me brush my teeth for eight weeks without having to charge it. That’s a full two months. Sounds promising. Since I travel a lot and don’t always want to lug a charging station for my toothbrush around with me, that was a decisive factor for me after I discovered the Mate toothbrush on Instagram.

In addition to the eight-week battery life, I was also drawn to the design of the mate sonic toothbrush: sleek, made of high-quality aluminum, and featuring an attractive matte-black housing with a matching travel case. The small, handy charging station is also black. As a design enthusiast, I appreciate this—often, even with black toothbrushes, the charger and cable are white. On top of that, the mate is particularly lightweight at 51 grams—and the product isn’t made in China. Of course, the ultra-light toothbrush is also available in other colors. Personally, I really liked the black one best.

A paradigm shift in oral hygiene

Behind mate Care & Repair is a young team. The Düsseldorf-based dental company has a clear mission: to offer high-quality oral hygiene and dental care products featuring minimalist design and excellent functionality.

Great importance is also placed on service. If the sonic toothbrush is defective, it will be replaced without a long wait. Prio customer service promises a response within a few hours to a maximum of one business day. Sustainability is also a priority: defective toothbrushes are repaired whenever possible. I like this because it helps reduce electronic waste.

The price is reasonable compared to other high-quality sonic toothbrushes. I’m taking advantage of this special offer because I have two residences: a 2-for-1 n the All Black Matt sonic toothbrush for 149.90 euros (regular price 259.80 euros)

What makes a sonic toothbrush special?

At first glance, the name “sonic toothbrush” is somewhat misleading, as it does not involve audible sound. “Rather, sonic toothbrushes generate vibrations at a frequency of about 30,000 to 40,000 movements per minute. These high-frequency vibrations create a dynamic motion that transforms the water and toothpaste into tiny bubbles that gently vibrate between the teeth and along the gumline,” say Damian and Mert, the two founders of mate Care & Repair.

The vibrations ensure that plaque and food debris are loosened and removed more thoroughly than is possible with conventional toothbrushes. This enhances the cleaning effect and promotes gum health.

Benefits of sonic technology at a glance:

  • Thorough cleaning: The high-frequency vibrations reach even hard-to-reach areas in the mouth, removing plaque more effectively.
  • Gentle care: Despite their power, sonic toothbrushes are gentle on the gums and prevent excessive pressure on the teeth, reducing the risk of damage.
  • Improved oral hygiene: Thanks to their more thorough cleaning, sonic toothbrushes help prevent gum inflammation and improve overall oral health.

My verdict: (almost) completely satisfied

I’ve been using my Mate for months now. I can brush my teeth with it for eight weeks without charging it. I even took it with me on my trip to Thailand. I deliberately left the charger at home to test its “battery life.” My teeth are always thoroughly cleaned without putting too much pressure on my gums—something that used to happen to me more often with electric toothbrushes.

I have just one small suggestion for the manufacturers: The Mate could be a bit more stable and not wobble so much in the small, round charger.
